Candice Mama's journey is poignantly illustrated in the documentary "It's A Pleasure to Meet You", which highlights her courageous act of forgiving her father's murderer, apartheid assassin Eugene De Kock,
UNC "Vogue named you one of the world's most inspiring women. What connection do you make between your peace work and your impact in the fashion world?"
CM " I'm very honored that Vogue has recognized me as one of the world's most inspiring women. For me, peace and fashion are intimately linked. Fashion isn't just about clothes; it's a powerful form of expression and storytelling. By using fashion to promote peace, I believe we can create a visual language that transcends words, encouraging dialogue and understanding. "
UNC " How does fashion help you express your personality and your message of reconciliation? "
CM " Fashion is a wonderful canvas for expressing my personality and my message of reconciliation. Each piece I choose reflects my own journey towards authenticity and self-confidence, which proves to be an invaluable tool for creating bonds.
Through fashion, I can convey my values, celebrate diversity and challenge preconceptions. It allows me to stand out and defend my convictions, making my message of peace more visible and understandable to a wider audience.
I've always wanted to make sure that what I wear isn't dictated by society, but by myself. Power has often been presented as a person wearing a suit, but I think real power is choice, choosing to wear what reflects you best."
UNC "How important is appearance to you in your roles as leader and mentor?"
CM "Appearance is certainly a factor in my role as a leader and mentor, but it's not just about appearance. It's about presenting yourself with confidence and authenticity.
When I dress, I seek to embody the values I stand for - integrity, respect and individuality. My appearance reflects my commitment to these ideals and serves as an extension of my leadership style and approach to mentoring."
UNC "What role do you think the fashion industry can play in promoting messages of peace and inclusion?"
CM "The fashion industry has an important role to play in promoting messages of peace and inclusion. By embracing diversity in its workforce and campaigns, fashion can lead by example and advocate for a more inclusive society.
The industry has the power to challenge stereotypes and foster a culture of acceptance and respect. When fashion houses choose to highlight stories of reconciliation and unity, they contribute to a broader cultural shift in favor of peace."
UNC" Why did you choose to wear and support Uncouture?"
CM"I believe in aligning your personal values with the choices you make every day, and fashion is no exception.
Uncouture to me, it's more than just beautifully made clothes, it's a "Movement" The brand's commitment to sustainability and women's empowerment resonates directly with me
For me, fashion has always been about more than aesthetics - it's about making conscious decisions that reflect who we are and what we stand for.
Uncouture 's message of empowerment is deeply inspiring, each piece an ode to femininity, strength and diversity."
